Over the past 12 years (2014 to 2026), India has witnessed a structural paradigm shift in capital expenditure and infrastructure development. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, public investment in roads, railways, airports, waterways, and digital infrastructure has increased multi-fold.

1. The Highway Network Revolution

National Highway network length grew from approximately 91,287 km in 2014 to over 146,000 km by 2024 and continues to expand rapidly under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. Expressways like the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, and Samruddhi Mahamarg have transformed logistics and inter-state trade.

2. Modernizing Indian Railways

The introduction of the indigenous Vande Bharat Express trainsets, complete electrification of broad-gauge networks, and dedicated freight corridors (Eastern and Western DFCs) have revolutionized both passenger and cargo movement. In Jammu & Kashmir, the monumental Chenab Railway Bridge now stands as the highest railway arch bridge in the world.

3. Aviation Boom & Regional Connectivity

The UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme revitalized unserved and underserved airstrips, doubling the operational commercial airports from 74 in 2014 to nearly 150. Flagship greenfield projects such as Jewar Noida International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport are positioning India as a global aviation crossroads.
